Egis has been awarded a project management contract by SYTRAL Mobilités to manage the two major metro network projects in the 2021-2026 Mandate Plan, and has recently reached an important milestone with the commissioning of the extension to line b. Here is an update on the Group's involvement and the next major milestones expected.
After carrying out the feasibility studies for the extension to Saint-Genis-Laval in 2011, Egis has, since 2015, been lead contractor for the MELYES consortium (Systra, Ateliers Schall and AZC Architectes), the general contractor for the extension of line B of the Lyon metro. Egis is also leader of the project management consortium for the Avenir Métro project to modernise and increase the capacity of the Lyon metro. Two complex projects on the same network, carried out in close collaboration by the :
- The 2.4 km extension of line b, which entered service on 20 October, now serves the south-west of the Lyon conurbation, and in particular the fast-developing Vallon de Saint-Genis-Laval area. Two new stations (Oullins Centre and Saint-Genis-Laval- Hôpital Lyon Sud), two new ventilation shafts and emergency access shafts, as well as modifications to the Orsel shaft were designed and delivered by Egis, which mobilised all of its metro expertise (works, systems and finishing trades). Despite the high risks associated with underground work, the disruption caused by the pandemic and its close links with the ‘Avenir Métro’ operation, the project was completed on time and on budget.

- The "Avenir Métro" project, which provides for the renewal of rolling stock and equipment throughout the network in order to modernise it and meet the needs of the growing number of passengers. Egis teams, experts in the total integration of a transport system on both new and existing infrastructures, have in particular migrated the driving system on Line B, making it fully automatic. This is the first migration of an existing line to a fully automatic control system to be carried out in France by a private general contractor. However, Egis' work is not yet finished: Line B will now be the subject of further improvements, including the introduction of multiple units (4-car trains), and Line D will also be the subject of in-depth studies to modernise it.
