End-to-End Service.
We are unique in the Irish market in providing an end-to-end service, from feasibility studies and needs analysis through preliminary design, planning process, tender management, project management & construction supervision to project commissioning and handover, onwards to operation and maintenance of assets for decades into the future.
Our long-term partnership focus means we ensure our clients' assets – be they the state or private partners - are operationally, financially, and environmentally efficient throughout their lifespan.
Ours is a multi-disciplinary team of designers, engineers, surveyors, project managers, technologists, geo-technical and environmental teams, asset and maintenance managers, quantity surveyors, and more. All supported by cross-functional support teams from HR to finance, communications, cyber security to contract management.
This breadth of experience equips us with a breadth of understanding which is unmatched in Ireland. We design projects with the benefit of deep experience in their operation and maintenance into the future. We operate and manage assets with the support of design engineering vision and creativity to ensure their resilience and adaptation in response to the changing needs of their populations.
Designing projects to benefit communities.
As engineers we recognise our role in designing transport, mobility, energy and infrastructure which is essential for social and economic development, but which minimises carbon emissions in the drive to net zero.
Our projects deliver significant value through improved connectivity, supporting business, learning, and cultural benefits for communities, and a cleaner lower carbon environment.
One of our landmark projects in road & bridges opened in 2023, is the N22 Baile Bhuirne to Macroom bypass. This transport corridor resulted in less congestion and massive 50% improvement in air quality for towns all along its route. Incorporating carbon reduction strategies from the outset, this project required minimal earthwork removal from site (less than 0.01% removed) and cut back on concrete consumption through use of precast concrete. Our ecological design approach included the protection of the endangered Kerry Slug, and planned planting of pollinators and native trees in corridor landscapes.
In 2023, our engineers delivered designs for 2MW of solar energy generation for our wastewater treatment plants, design upgrades for water & wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations, and flood relief scheme assessments and designs.
We devised plans for Living Streets, revolutionising streetscapes for suburbs of Dundrum, Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, now refocused on community, connection, biodiversity and local commerce. Working to respond to Ireland’s acute housing need, almost 500 homes in developments designed by our teams achieved planning permissions in 2023, with a further 1,200 in construction.
Public transport design.
In public transport we’re helping deliver the proposed Luas Finglas extension, itself an extension of our original design for Dublin’s first Luas in 1994.
We’re currently modernising the signalling and train management system on behalf of Irish Rail, helping to improve network safety along 2,400 km of the country’s network. In rail our expertise stretches from feasibility studies to ticketing solutions – to depots, operations, maintenance, analytics, and asset management.
In Cork, we are partners in the delivery of the signalling and communications solution for Cork Area Commuter Rail (CACR), a project that will establish a fully integrated metropolitan area rail network for the city. The CACR programme will enhance and develop over 62km of rail network from Mallow, through to Cork, Cobh, and Midleton.
Continual improvement in Asset Management, Maintenance and Operations.
We are the country’s largest independent operator of infrastructure, and now maintain and manage 470 JM of Ireland’s motorways, and all of its tunnels.
The Dublin Tunnel at 4.7km is one of Europe’s largest urban tunnels, and one of Ireland’s most significant pieces of infrastructure. Tunnel control buildings also house Ireland’s Motorway Traffic Control Centre, equipped with a 55-screen wall monitored 24/7 by our traffic management team who liaise with emergency response services and maintenance teams to ensure safer, frictionless travel for motorway users.
Our asset management and maintenance management teams work continuously to drive efficiencies for users and our clients in Transport Infrastructure Ireland. In 2023 we deployed an initiative to replace all 1,800 lights in Dublin Tunnel, delivering a cost saving as well as an estimated 60% reduction in energy consumption. Our motorway operations teams rolled out similar energy savings through lighting scheme upgrades in Ireland’s M1 North-Link motorway.
Our Links motorway tolling operations all attained ISO50001 in 2023, certifying our energy management approach.
We run the national Disability Toll Exemption Scheme and the nationwide mobile speed enforcement camera systems on behalf of the government, using smart systems designed by and continually updated by us.
Supporting ecological and energy transition.
As a group, Egis has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions carbon neutral by 2050.
In Ireland we are committed helping support ecological and energy transition in delivery & and operation of projects, pushing to improve operational efficiency, minimise resource consumption, waste generation, emissions and monitoring environmental performance.
Since 2018 we have already cut carbon emissions by 17% across our road networks and use renewable energy across 50% of our operations. From detailed environmental impact assessments to dedicated programmes to boost biodiversity, we ensure projects meet the highest standards for sustainability, recognised by our ISO 14001/50001 Energy & Environmental Management certification across our Irish operations.
