Construction of the Flamanville 3 EPR (European Pressurised Reactor) started in 2007. It complements the two existing units on the same site. This project responds to the need to invest in new production capacity to ensure the security of energy supply. It is a step towards the renewal of the French nuclear fleet.

Nuclear safety studies.
Egis carried out the detailed studies for the buildings on the cross of the nuclear island (reactor, fuel, electrical and back-up auxiliary buildings) as co-contractor with Tractebel, and for other buildings on the site (emergency diesel building, access tower, local crisis centre and operational centre).
The main buildings of the nuclear island are arranged on a common cross-shaped reinforced concrete raft. These buildings are protected by an independent structure, which serves as protection against the fall of an aircraft.
The execution studies include calculations for all the buildings in the cross: detailed calculations, formwork plans, reinforcement guide plans for the common raft, the aircraft hull, the fuel building, the HL 2 and 3 buildings, the diesel buildings and the access tower. To take account of soil-structure interaction phenomena, our teams modelled the soil using volumetric elements. Egis also carried out the modification and loopback studies for the calculations, as well as the sizing of the turbine-generator unit table supported by spring boxes in the engine room.
For Flamanville 3, Egis also carried out studies on the mechanical behaviour of the containment (2001-2003), took over the project management for the design/construction of the post-Fukushima local emergency centres (2012-2020) and is still involved on site with the detailed design studies for the liquid containment.
